• There was a time when a Black family couldn't just get in the car and drive across Georgia. You needed a book to tell you where it was safe to stop.
The Green Book, started in 1936 by Harlem mail carrier Victor Hugo Green, listed hotels, restaurants, gas stations, salons, and private homes across America that would actually serve Black travelers. Georgia had its own listings — Macon's Douglass Hotel, service stations on Atlanta's Auburn Avenue, and more.
A few things the video didn't have room for: mail carriers were the secret engine of the whole thing. Postmen knew exactly which homes on their routes would take in travelers, and they mailed reams of listings to Green. Readers sent in their own suggestions too — user-generated content decades before the internet. It sold about 15,000 copies a year at its peak, and being listed as a "tourist home" was considered an honor. It stopped publishing in the 1960s after the Civil Rights Act. Most of the buildings are gone now, but a few, like Thomasville's Imperial Hotel, still stand.
Georgia, did your family ever travel with the Green Book?

  • Lena Baker was the only woman ever executed by the state of Georgia.
In 1944, Lena Baker, a Black woman from rural Georgia, killed Ernest Knight, a white man. Baker said he had held her captive in his gristmill, repeatedly sexually assaulted her, and threatened her with a pistol when she tried to escape.
During the struggle, she shot him.
She was arrested, tried before an all-white, all-male jury, and convicted of murder. The trial lasted just one day, and after only a brief deliberation, the jury sentenced her to death.
On March 5, 1945, Lena Baker was executed in Georgia's electric chair. She was 44 years old.
Six decades later, in 2005, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles granted her a posthumous pardon. The board did not declare her innocent, but concluded that the state had failed to fully consider the circumstances surrounding the case and that clemency should have been granted.
Today, Lena Baker's case is remembered as one of the most controversial examples of racial and gender injustice in the American legal system.
History should be remembered not forgotten

  • Aleiana Vargas, 17, Springfield, Massachusetts.
Federal agencies flagged Massachusetts as a high-risk exploitation zone because of the World Cup — and Aleiana went missing right in the middle of it.
    Aleiana Vargas
**Aleiana may still be in the local area.**
Female. Brown eyes. Blue/teal and black curly hair.
Last seen: June 30, 2026, Springfield, Massachusetts.
The MCA Virtual Search Party™ does not let a case like this go quiet. If you have seen Aleiana — if anything about her face lands somewhere in your memory — that call matters more than you know.
    🔴 DANGER LEVEL: 9/10 — CRITICAL
    🟥🟥🟥🟥🟥🟥🟥🟥🟥⬜
Operation Yellow Card — a U.S. Marshals-led operation launched because Massachusetts was publicly identified as a high-risk trafficking zone during the FIFA World Cup — has been active since April 2026 and recovered 35 missing children from this state, some located as far away as Georgia and Texas. Aleiana disappeared June 30, at the peak of that window. FBI Boston's Child Exploitation–Human Trafficking Task Force arrested seven individuals on exploitation charges between June 12–16. Two Springfield men were charged with child enticement in Operation Firewall in November 2025. Massachusetts receives an F grade for child sex trafficking response from Shared Hope International, and NCMEC assesses 19% of the state's missing children as likely trafficking victims.

  • Neighbors, hopefully she wins! A Georgia woman is suing Airbnb after she claims she was denied the opportunity to book a rental located in a “peaceful white neighborhood”.
    —-
According to reports, Sharona Stewart says she found a six-bedroom home in Dunwoody, Georgia, and exchanged introduction messages with the host before things allegedly took a turn. Stewart claims the host began asking questions before abruptly rejecting her reservation.
    ——
Afterward, she says she took a closer look at the listing and noticed it described the area as a “peaceful white neighborhood” with “no neighbors around.” Stewart has since filed a federal lawsuit against the host and Airbnb alleging racial discrimination. She claims the platform failed to act quickly after she reported the listing.
    —-
Her attorney argues the wording used in the listing, along with the alleged rejection of her booking, raises serious concerns about discriminatory housing practices. The lawsuit also claims Airbnb allowed the listing to remain active for months after being notified of the alleged issue.

Airbnb has since responded, stating that discrimination has no place on its platform and confirming that the host has been permanently removed. Thoughts? 💭
