More than 40 years ago, a young girl was found near an access road leading to the Japanese Garden on Watson Island.

According to investigators, Franklin Davis and the woman got into an argument Friday while sitting in a parked vehicle at a 7-Eleven. Davis, who had been drinking, allegedly pulled out a bottle filled with gasoline, poured it onto the dashboard and front seats, and then set the car on fire while they were both still inside.

The woman said she believed Davis was trying to “burn her up” before she managed to escape. She suffered third-degree burns to her left leg, while Davis suffered burns to his hands and face. Both were treated at local hospitals.
