Born on August 7, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York, Perrineau has built an extraordinary career across television, film, theater, dance and music.
He was born Harold Perrineau, but his surname was changed to Williams during childhood. When he joined the Screen Actors Guild and discovered another Harold Williams was already registered, he returned to his birth name, using the surname of his mother, Sylvia Perrineau.
Television audiences know him as Michael Dawson in ABC’s Lost, whose emotional search for his son Walt became one of the show’s most memorable storylines. After leaving as a regular following Season 2, he made a secretive return in Season 4, with Michael hiding aboard the freighter under the alias Kevin Johnson.
Perrineau previously starred as narrator and inmate Augustus Hill throughout HBO’s groundbreaking prison drama Oz. He now leads MGM+’s supernatural mystery series From as Boyd Stevens, the determined sheriff trying to protect the residents of a nightmarish town from which no one can escape. Season 4 concluded on June 28, 2026, and MGM+ has officially renewed the series for a fifth and final season, expected in 2027.
His memorable film roles include Mercutio in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, Link in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, Rashid Cole in Smoke, Julian Murch in The Best Man and Flynn in 28 Weeks Later.
His other television work includes Sons of Anarchy, Constantine, Claws and The Rookie. Marvel fans may also recognize him as the English-language voice of Blade in the 2011 anime series.
Before his major screen success, Perrineau trained as a dancer and originated the role of Tyrone Jackson in the 1989 world premiere of Fame: The Musical. A talented singer as well, he recorded the R&B/soul track Stay Strong and later released music with producer Tomo in der Muhlen.

In a state with one of the darkest histories of racial violence in America, Black families are once again demanding answers.
Mississippi’s Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Staci Turner, is facing intense scrutiny after her office handled several high-profile deaths of Black residents under circumstances that many believe remain unresolved or improperly ruled.
The cases include:
Nolan Xavier Wells, 18, whose body was found in the water near Horn Island in July 2026. Authorities quickly called it an accidental drowning.
His family, represented by attorney Ben Crump, ordered an independent autopsy. Early findings have raised more questions than answers.
Damien Cameron, 29, who died in 2021 after a violent arrest by Rankin County deputies later tied to the notorious “Goon Squad.” Turner’s office ruled the death “undetermined” even though the autopsy showed internal bleeding in his neck consistent with compression.
Independent forensic pathologists later concluded it was a homicide.
Demartravion “Trey” Reed, 21, a Delta State University student found hanging from a tree on campus in September 2025.
Officials ruled it a suicide. His family has never accepted that conclusion and ordered their own independent autopsy.
Channon Wilson, a 13-year-old boy whose 2022 drowning death was ruled accidental without a full autopsy. His family has long claimed he was thrown into the water and that evidence was mishandled.
Only one of these cases — Damien Cameron’s — has been independently reviewed and directly contradicted the state’s findings. The others remain clouded by unanswered questions, pending reports, or families who say they were never given the full truth.
In a state still living with the memory of lynchings, every unexplained Black death carries heavier weight. Families and advocates argue that when the same medical examiner’s office repeatedly delivers rulings that leave more questions than answers, trust collapses.
This is not just about one death. It is about a pattern — and whether Black lives in Mississippi are being fully and fairly examined when they are lost.

Massachusetts receives an F grade for child sex trafficking response from Shared Hope International, and NCMEC assesses 19% of the state's missing children as likely trafficking victims.

For 40 years, they called it a medical study.
Hundreds of Black men in Alabama trusted government doctors, believing they were receiving treatment for "bad blood." Instead, many were never told they had syphilis, and after penicillin became the standard treatment, it was deliberately withheld from them so researchers could observe the disease.
Some lost their eyesight. Some suffered severe neurological damage. Some died. Some wives contracted the disease, and some children were born with congenital syphilis.
In 1972, the truth finally came to light.
The Tuskegee Syphilis Study remains one of the most notorious ethical failures in American medical history a reminder of why informed consent, transparency, and medical ethics matter.
History should be remembered, even when it's uncomfortable.
