The Trump administration has officially abandoned plans to replace former President Andrew Jackson with abolitionist Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the decision during a recent interview.

When asked whether the Treasury Department was still moving forward with the plan, Bessent told Spectrum News, “We are not at present.”

The idea was first announced by the Obama administration in 2016. Tubman, who was born into slavery and later helped hundreds of enslaved people escape to freedom, would have become the first Black American featured on U.S. paper currency.

During his first presidential campaign, Trump criticized the proposal, calling it “pure political correctness,” and suggested Tubman could instead appear on the $2 bill.

The project was later revived under the Biden administration, with a rollout estimated for 2030. However, that plan is no longer moving. Thoughts? 🤔
